HÀ NỘI — Minister of Transport (MoT) Trương Quang Nghĩa emphasised the potential bilateral co-operation in transportation development, especially in maritime and aviation, between Việt Nam and Egypt.

Nghĩa made the statement during a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr and President of Suez Canal Special Economic Zone Mahab Manish on Wednesday.

Welcoming the Egyptian minister, Nghĩa expressed appreciation at her efforts to accelerate cooperation between the two countries in general and achievements in the transportation field in particular.

Egypt is considered an important access point for Việt Nam into Africa and a potential market for the ship building industry. Minister Nasr, on behalf of Egypt’s delegation, showed admiration for Việt Nam’s experiences and expertise in ship building, and said her country was seeking cooperation opportunities.

At the meeting, Mahab Manish proposed three cooperation projects with Việt Nam -- establishing a ship-building factory in Ras Aldapia, Suez, Egypt; renovating two ship-building factories at Said and Tawfik harbours; and developing a vocational centre at Said Harbour

On the occasion, Minister Nghĩa recalled cooperation achievements of the two countries in the past, including the Air Transport Agreement signed in 1999 and the maritime joint committee’s meetings in 2008 and 2017.

The two countries also expressed their desire to renegotiate the 1994 maritime transport agreement and agreed to show support for each other at regional and international maritime forums.VNS
