HÀ NỘI — Lao National Assembly President Sonexay Siphandone and his spouse will pay an official visit to Việt Nam from November 2 to 5, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit will be made at the invitation of National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn and his spouse, the ministry said in a communique.
It will be Sonexay Siphandone's first visit to Việt Nam since taking office as President of the Lao National Assembly. He was elected to the position earlier this month by the Lao National Assembly for its 10th legislature.
The visit comes as political and diplomatic ties between Việt Nam and Laos continue to be strengthened, with bilateral relations developing in an increasingly substantive and sustainable manner. Leaders of the two countries have maintained regular exchanges, including high-level meetings and reciprocal visits.
Cooperation between the two legislatures has also been consistently nurtured by successive generations of leaders, serving as an important pillar of the special relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
The two sides regularly exchange experience and support each other in drafting constitutions and legal documents, refining the organisational structures, functions and responsibilities of parliamentary committees, and training specialists and professional staff.
In 2025, the two legislatures jointly compiled and published a book entitled 50 Years of Relations between the National Assemblies of Việt Nam and Laos – Comprehensive Cooperation and Development, marking major anniversaries in bilateral relations.
The online publication launch ceremony was held in Vientiane on December 2, 2025, as part of the State visit to Laos by Party General Secretary Tô Lâm and his spouse.
The upcoming visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the two sides to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation and deepen the longstanding friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Việt Nam and Laos. — VNA/VNS
