HÀ NỘI – Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng yesterday congratulated Haiti for its economic reform and national development achievements.
Receiving Haitian Senate President Youri Latortue in Ha Noi, he stressed Việt Nam’s consistent policy of intensifying and expanding friendship and multi-faceted co-operation with Haiti.
He asked both sides to continue promoting connections in all areas, particularly with strong growth potential, like agriculture, telecommunications and industrial production, thereby substantially contributing to their respective countries’ development.
The Party leader expressed his belief that the Haitian people will weather all challenges and succeed in building a prosperous and happy nation.
Latortue expressed his admiration for the nation’s đổi mới (reform) achievements, saying he sees Việt Nam’s development as an example of economic reform for Haiti.
Youri Latortue, who is on an official visit to Việt Nam, informed the Party leader of the outcome of his talks and meetings with the leaders of the State and the National Assembly of Việt Nam.
He also briefed Trọng on recent developments in his country and thanked Việt Nam for the co-operation and assistance provided to Haiti.
Haiti wanted to enhance cooperation with Việt Nam in many areas including agriculture, transport, telecommunications, and people-to-people exchanges, he said.
It was particularly keen on stepping up exchange of high-ranking delegations to learn from each other’s experience in country leadership and management, he said. — VNS
