BUDAPEST –  National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân and Speaker of the Hungary National Assembly Kovér László yesterday co-chaired the opening session of a talk on laws relating to international integration.

The talk, titled “Perfecting laws during the international integration process," was the first such event between the two parliaments. It was facilitated by a co-operation agreement signed by the two parliaments in 2008.

Ngân said Việt Nam has recorded enormous achievements over the past 30 years of economic renewal and has since embarked on an extensive and intensive international integration process.

She said a legal system that can expedite this was extremely important, adding that Viet Nam will continue refining its law-making process to meet higher requirements of the renovation and integration processes.

Việt Nam wanted to share and learn from other countries’ experiences in building and perfecting their legal systems, especially those in similar development circumstances, she said.

She hailed Hungary’s successful transformation and integration as well as its rich experience in reforming laws to fit the new developmental period.

She said Việt Nam would have new opportunities to renew and boost co-operation with the European Union, especially after the Việt Nam - EU Free Trade Agreement is ratified.

Kovér László noted the relationship between Việt Nam and Hungary was growing strongly with frequent high-level visits made in recent years, regarding Việt Nam a strategic partner in Southeast Asia.

László affirmed that parliamentary co-operation was important for forging closer ties between the two governments and parliaments. The parliamentary co-operation agreement signed in 2008 has created a foundation for strengthening ties, and facilitated the ongoing talk, he said.

The talk was a great opportunity for legislators, officials, experts and managers to share valuable information and experiences and discuss issues of mutual concern in a frank manner, they agreed.

Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, Gulyas Gergely, introduced participants to the lawmaking modus operandi in his country.

Gulyás Gergely and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations, Nguyễn Văn Giàu, co-chaired a discussion on a wide range of issues, including Hungary’s economic development policies and regulations promoting competitiveness, and Việt Nam’s tax policies and legal regulations on the budget and budgetary management. — VNS
