PM hails efforts of Military Region 4

Military Region 4 of the Việt Nam People’s Army in central provinces has made efforts to strengthen national defence and security, maintain political stability and social order, thus contributing to the country’s socio-economic development, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc said yesterday.

NGHỆ AN — Military Region 4 of the Việt Nam People’s Army in central provinces has made efforts to strengthen national defence and security, maintain political stability and social order, thus contributing to the country’s socio-economic development, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc said yesterday.

At a working visit to the 4th Military Region, Phuc said its High Command had also fulfilled tasks in building strong armed forces.

He added that different generations of the 4th Military Region made great contributions to the country’s struggle for independence and development, and urged its soldiers and officers to continue striving to uphold this tradition.

Phúc urged officials and soldiers of the 4th Military Region to increase political education, be proactive in properly handling emerging issues relating to national defence and security in the region, and closely work with authorities of Nghệ An province and localities to maintain political stability and social order and contribute to the socio-economic development tasks of central provinces.

They were also instructed to actively join search and rescue missions in emergency cases, such as floods and other natural disasters.

Phúc stressed that the Government attached great attention not only to economic development but also to national defence and it would strive to create resources for the army to use effectively and creatively to protect the nation.

The Prime Minister also visited and offered incense at Kim Lien, the home village of late President Ho Chi Minh. He later attended a musical programme commemorating thousands of youth volunteers killed at Truông Bồn in Đô Lương District during the American War. - VNS
