HÀ NỘI — Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung held phone talks with his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand on Saturday evening.

Trung affirmed that Việt Nam highly values Canada’s important role and voice in regional and international affairs.

He stressed Việt Nam attaches importance to its relations with Canada and stands ready to work with the latter to step up substantive cooperation towards the early elevation of the Việt Nam–Canada Comprehensive Partnership, in line with the political trust, cooperation potential and interests of the two countries’ peoples.

The Vietnamese minister spoke highly of the two sides' close coordination in effectively implementing the outcomes of the July 21, 2026 phone call between Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, as well as the July 22 meeting between the two foreign ministers on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in the Philippines.

He proposed that they continue close coordination to elevate bilateral ties as agreed by the two countries’ leaders, and further strengthen political trust through exchanges at all levels and via various channels, with priority given to high-level visits.

Trung also suggested deepening economic connectivity and linking the Việt Nam–ASEAN–Canada–North America supply chains, promoting cooperation in science, technology, innovation, security, defence, education and high-quality human resources training, and working closely with each other at regional and international forums.

For his part, Anand reaffirmed that Canada considers Việt Nam an important partner in ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific region.

She shared Trung’s assessment of the two sides’ recent coordination efforts to facilitate high-level visits and upgrade Canada–Việt Nam relations to a new level.

The Canadian official agreed to enhance coordination and expand collaboration in areas matching the two sides' strengths and complementary needs. She encouraged ministries, sectors, localities and businesses of both countries to step up connectivity and proactively put forward specific cooperation initiatives and projects.

Trung and Anand agreed to maintain regular exchanges between the two foreign ministers and their ministries, contributing to the increasingly substantive, effective and in-depth development of Việt Nam–Canada relations. — VNA/VNS
