HÀ NỘI — Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung chaired an inter-agency meeting in Hà Nội on Friday to review and press for the delivery of international commitments and agreements.
Participants underlined the political significance and urgency of monitoring and following up on the implementation of international commitments, pledging to shift from deal-signing to delivery, narrow the gap between commitments and tangible results, and turn commitments into practical resources for national development.
They reviewed the progress of nearly 30 international commitments, agreements and key projects tied to socio-economic development.
Many have advanced in recent years, while for projects still facing obstacles, ministry and agency representatives agreed on specific solutions and approaches.
According to them, the review and follow-up mechanism has gradually become routine, with many agencies proactively and fully updating the digital platform for tracking international commitments and agreements, and information sharing and coordination among agencies growing closer and more substantive.
Ministries and agencies agreed to further foster coordination, clarify responsibilities and minimise overlap, improve reporting with substantive assessments of progress and results, move faster to clear obstacles.
They will proactively screen commitments, agreements and key projects to prevent any from being overlooked, and urgently prepare content to support high-level external relations activities in the coming time.
Participants also endorsed the principle of balancing interests while prioritising quality and feasibility in implementation.
In his speech, Trung urged ministries and agencies to tighten implementation discipline and hold agency heads accountable, adopting results-based management with clear roles, responsibility, timelines and results.
The ministry will continue refining the overall framework and coordination mechanisms, while upholding the role of the standing body of the Central Steering Committee for Foreign Affairs and International Integration and Việt Nam’s network of overseas missions to assist ministries, agencies and localities in the effort.
The meeting reaffirmed the consensus and determination of relevant agencies to improve the delivery of international commitments and agreements, pool external resources for the country’s rapid and sustainable development and elevate Việt Nam’s global standing and reputation. — VNA/VNS
