CAIRO — State President Lương Cường and Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq, President of the Senate of the Arab Republic of Egypt, have agreed to establish a Việt Nam–Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Group to facilitate regular exchanges and propose measures to enhance parliamentary cooperation.

They made the agreement during their talks in Cairo on Wednesday morning (local time).

The Egyptian Senate leader warmly welcomed the Vietnamese president, stating that the visit came at an appropriate time and would usher in a new phase of development in bilateral relations, promising a brighter future for both nations and peoples.

He noted that as two traditionally friendly and loyal nations, Việt Nam and Egypt should further enhance political trust, mutual understanding and coordination.

Abdel Razeq confirmed the Egyptian Senate’s desire to strengthen cooperation with the Vietnamese National Assembly, and said it would implement all necessary measures to support both governments in effectively realising cooperation commitments and plans for the benefit of their peoples.

Cường said that the two countries had great potential to boost bilateral cooperation, especially in economics, trade and investment, in line with the strong political relationship and each country’s strengths.

He proposed that the two parliaments work closely together to effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, support policy negotiations, finalise agreements and improve the legal framework to enhance business cooperation and market access, while strengthening people-to-people connections.

To further deepen Việt Nam–Egypt relations for the prosperity and well-being of both peoples, the two leaders agreed to enhance the role of parliamentary diplomacy and strengthen cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

This includes the increased exchange of parliamentary leaders and committee heads to share legislative and oversight experiences, closer coordination in multilateral inter-parliamentary forums and promoting exchanges among young and female parliamentarians.

The Vietnamese president also conveyed an invitation from National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn for Abdel Razeq to visit Việt Nam.

The same day, during a meeting with Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives Hanafy El Gebaly, President Cường highlighted the upgrade of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership and the signing of multiple cooperation documents across important sectors.

El Gebaly said he appreciates the role of the Vietnamese National Assembly in building and improving the legal system, and expressed a desire to boost parliamentary cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally.

He suggested more high-level and working-level delegation exchanges and closer economic, trade and investment ties, and welcomed more Vietnamese tourists and students to Egypt.

The Vietnamese leader reaffirmed Việt Nam’s commitment to enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation and called on the Egyptian House of Representatives to support major directions to make bilateral ties more substantive, effective and comprehensive, particularly through early signing of cooperation agreements to provide a complete legal framework.
