HÀ NỘI — Chairman of the Việt Nam Peace Committee (VPC) Uông Chu Lưu held talks with Lao National Assembly Vice Chairman & Chairman of the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity Sommad Pholsena on Thursday in Hà Nội, focusing on orientations for cooperation between the two agencies in the future.

Lưu spoke highly of the efficiency of cooperation between the two committees over recent times and noted that the two sides have established a mechanism for boosting annual delegation exchanges, regularly exchanging information, sharing experiences, and closely coordinating activities to promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries’ people.

The working visit by the VPC’s delegation to Vientiane in 2022 is one of the most successful activities in the delegation exchanges between the two committees, he said, adding that the two sides have organised a seminar on people-to-people diplomacy, thus promoting and enhancing awareness of people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries and the two committees.

The Vietnamese official suggested the two sides continue to uphold achievements in promoting the special friendship and solidarity between Việt Nam and Laos, while proactively innovating and diversifying the forms of cooperation activities between the two committees.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation through such activities as maintaining delegation exchanges; organising seminars and workshops to discuss issues of peace, solidarity and cooperation, as well as those of mutual concern; strengthening coordination and mutual support in people-to-people diplomacy activities at multilateral forums; and maintaining a mechanism for regular information exchange on issues related to the situation of the two countries, the region and the world, as well as the activities of each side to promptly support each other's activities.

The committees will also support training, improve professional qualifications for staff working in people's diplomacy, and consider jointly organising traditional education activities for people, especially young people, on preserving and safeguarding peace.

Pholsena emphasised the importance of people-to-people exchange and the need to strengthen traditional education and peace education for the young generation of the two countries through various forms, to foster and further deepen the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Việt Nam and Laos. — VNA/VNS
