HÀ NỘI — A contest has been launched to celebrate major events in 2020 and the 1,010th anniversary of Thăng Long – Hà Nội, seeking entries featuring Vietnamese traditional art forms and intangible cultural heritages.

The contest, entitled Người Giữ Màu Dân Tộc (Keepers of the National Colours) and launched by Hà Nội Department of Culture and Sports, aims to arouse pride among Vietnamese about the traditional values of the nation.

It is also expected to honour organisations and individuals dedicated to the preservation, promotion and introduction of the intangible cultural heritages of Việt Nam and of the capital in particular.

Keepers of the National Colours is open for all groups and individuals of all ages and professions, based in Hà Nội. The entries can be in the forms of writing, photo reportage, television reportage or documentary film.

According to the organisation board, entries must feature artists or individuals who have been closely attached to traditional art forms or intangible cultural heritages such as ca trù (ceremonial singing), xẩm (blind wanderers' music) or chèo (popular opera).

At the same time, the contest is an opportunity to discover and exploit creative ideas and community initiatives in the preservation of the national cultural heritage; as well as encourage the public, especially the young generations, to preserve, inherit and promote the cultural identity of both Việt Nam and Hà Nội.

Keepers of the National Colours will open for entries until the end of October 31 via email to tochucsukienttvh@gmail.com and by post to the address of Hanoi Cultural Centre on No. 7 Phùng Hưng Street, Hà Đông District.

The closing and awarding ceremonies are expected to take place on Việt Nam’s Cultural Heritage Day, November 23, 2020. — VNS
