HCM CITY – Theatres and entertainment centres in HCM City are offering new shows on the occasion of the International Day for Children (June 1).

The private Phương Nam Theatre will restage one of its popular circus shows, Các Chú Hề Và Muông Thú Rừng Xanh (Clowns and Animals in the Jungle), in a musical style.

The show is performed by young circus artists who begin portray a magical adventure in the jungle. It features Vietnamese and foreign songs, dances and colourful images.

“We spent a lot for beautiful clothes and accessories suited to the show’s theme. Sound and light effects are also a realistic element that attracts young audiences,” said the theatre’s director Lê Diễn.

Các Chú Hề Và Muông Thú Rừng Xanh will open at 8pm tonight at the Gia Định Park in Hoàng Minh Giám Street in Gò Vấp District. It will be staged for seven shows on Saturday and Sunday.

The city’s Cultural House for Children on Sunday night will offer a music gala called Ngày Hội Tuổi Thơ 2020 (Festival of Childhood 2020) on 169 Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa Street in District 3 for more than 300 disadvantaged children living in open houses in rural districts. 

Young singers and theatre artists will perform songs and plays about bravery, self-respect, honesty, and friendship. The free event includes performances combining circus and puppetry as well as music and dance. 

The show will continue on June 1 for children aged three to 15.   

In addition, Đầm Sen Tourist Park in District 9 will stage music, circus and puppet shows staged by professional artists from local traditional art troupes. Many games, exhibitions, and painting and sport competitions will also be featured.  

The event will begin at 7pm on June 1 and will be held every weekend until mid-July.  

Meanwhile, cultural houses for children around the city are launching contests in cooking, painting, storytelling, singing and dancing. Topics about peace and love are highlighted. Children can attend free of charge at these events on June 1. VNS
