HCM CITY — Yellow bells are blooming in HCM City, brightening its streets and offering visitors a chance to admire them and take photos.
The flowers are called huỳnh liên, their scientific name is Tecoma stans, and they are widely cultivated as an ornamental flower in many countries.
Yellow bells trees are planted in streets, front of houses and parks and other public areas in the city.
They grow 1.5 - 5m tall, but occasionally go up to 10m. It is drought-resistant and grows well in warm climates.
Flowering occurs in HCM City between March and May.
Flowers usually survive for two days and a tree produces them prolifically during the blossom season.
The bright yellow colour of these flowers lights up many streets like Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh and Điện Biên Phủ in Bình Thạnh District, Nguyễn Cơ Thạch Street in District 2, and Võ Văn Kiệt in District 1.
But a 10km section along the railway track in Phú Nhuận District and near Lê Văn Sỹ Street in District 3 where the flowers are in full boom has become the most popular destination for photographers and flower lovers. — VNS
