HCM CITY Designer Phương My exhibited her first bridal collection “Espoir” (Hope) at HCM City’s Park Hyatt Saigon on Friday.
The exhibition showcased 12 gowns and suits in white and red inspired by the strength of women.
The designs include structured coats and layered dresses in shapes especially suited for Asian women. Some of them are decorated with 3D flowers and petals, and crystals. All of them are made of luxury fabrics of silk cotton, silk tullle and organza silk.
Phương My presented her debut bridal collection at the New York Bridal Fashion Week in the US in April, and became the first Vietnamese representative at the event.
The collection was highlighted in The New York Times besides world-known fashion houses like Vera Wang and Reem Arca.
It also appeared in popular fashion magazines WWD.com, Brides.com, L’Officiel Baltics and Harper’s Bazaars Vietnam.
The bridal collection are available at the prestigious bridal salons such as Mark Ingram Atelier in New York, the US, The Wedding Club in London, the UK, and SoYoo Bridal and Elisabeth in Seoul, South Korea.
Previously, Phương My presented her fall/winter collection “Sayonara” at New York Fashion Week 2019 in February.
She designed an off-the-shoulder gold dress for American singer and superstar Beyonce for the AFI Awards held in Hollywood in June.
In recognition of the designer’s contribution to Vietnamese fashion, ELLE Vietnam honoured Phương My as the designer of the year at the 2019 ELLE Style Awards in HCM City on August 22.
Born in HCM City, My, a graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, began her design career after winning top prizes at two prestigious contests, Are You Runway Ready in New York City, and the Discarded to Divine Project in San Francisco in 2010.
In 2013, she returned to HCM City to launch her own brand PHUONG MY, which received a warm welcome from customers and celebrities.
She now has 30 stores in 20 countries and territories, including France, Italy, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Dubai, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
My has worked as a stylist for key fashion magazines in Việt Nam such as Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.
She has attended leading international fashion events, including New York Fashion Week Event sponsored by Astonish Magazine in 2011, Black V San Francisco Fashion Show in 2011, Tokyo Fashion Fuse Show in 2011, BLUEPRINT Fashion Show in Singapore in 2011, Asia Fashion Week in Malaysia in 2011, Perth Fashion Festival in Australia in 2015, and Dubai Fashion Week in 2017.
Phương My became the first Vietnamese designer to open the Vancouver Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 held at Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza in September 2018. — VNS
