HCM CITY — The historic Võ Nguyên Giáp Cave in the central province of Quảng Bình has opened for visitors.

The cave, located in Ngân Thủy Commune in Lệ Thủy District, is named after General Võ Nguyên Giáp (1911-2013), Việt Nam’s legendary military leader.

From 1971 to 1973, Giáp stayed in the cave where he led military campaigns in southern Việt Nam.

The cave has stalactites which look like gold since they contain a large quantity of silica. The cave contains many other stalactite systems and small lakes.

The Võ Nguyên Giáp Cave is 40 kilometers to the southwest of Đồng Hới Town, the centre of Quảng Bình Province. It can be visited as part of a day tour or a two-day, one-night tour.

Quảng Bình, often known as the kingdom of caves, is also home to the world’s largest cave, Sơn Đoòng Cave.

The province welcomed 3.9 million visitors last year, an increase of 18 per cent over the same period last year. — VNS
