HÀ NỘI — Hosted by Thể thao & Văn hóa (Sport & Culture) newspaper, the 14th Devotion Music Awards will give out prizes for the best show, best album and best singer of the year, the organisation board said yesterday in Hà Nội.
The Show of The Year category has the most nominations with eight. They include shows by A-list singers such as Thanh Lam, Mỹ Linh and Tùng Dương. The show Ánh Trăng Tình Yêu (Moonlight of Love) was the first concert by singer Lan Anh and the first time she was nominated for the award.
"It is lucky for me to be nominated for the award with my first concert," said Anh. "I think that music makers including singers like me are happy because there is a music award like this one to honour the profession."
The show combines Vietnamese songs and opera for the singer to show off her vocal ability.
Four nominations were given to the shows by established singers Vũ Thắng Lợi, Phạm Phương Thảo, Hà Anh Tuấn and Đông Nhi.
Lan Anh, Thanh Lam and Tùng Dương were nominated in the Singer of the Year category.
The Devotion Music Awards are held annually by Thể thao & Văn hóa newspaper to promote Vietnamese music and honour artists who have made significant contributions to the industry. There are nine categories.
There are five nominations for Producer of the Year including Phạm Thanh Hà, Tiên Cookie, Đỗ Hiếu, Dương K and Võ Thiện Thanh. Thanh is the most veteran musician of the bunch, having previous won Musician of the Year in 2007 and 2008. His album Saigon Feel made an impression by combining jazz with pop, R&B and hip-hop.
Saigon Feel is one of six nominations in the Album of the Year category, along with Chat ưith Mozart 2 by popular singer Mỹ Linh. Singer and veteran composer Dương Thụ wrote lyrics for classical melodies by Mozart, Bach, Liszt and others. Chat with Mozart 1 won the award in 2006.
Stardom represents a milestone in the career of singer-songwriter Vũ Cát Tường. The album was at the top of the Apple Music charts in Việt Nam ahead of even Namanana by Lay and A Star Is Born by Lady Gaga.
Thiên Thần Sa Ngã (Depraved Angel) by singer-songwriter Bùi Lan Hương introduced dreampop – a new music genre in Việt Nam. Dreampop is subgenre of alternative-rock and is not well known in Việt Nam.
Hương also received a nomination for New Artist of the Year. This category will also consider Lộn Xộn Band, JustaTee, Phùng Khánh Linh, and Thái Vũ.
Hành Tinh Song Song (Parallel Planet) and Hôm Nay Tôi Buồn (I’m Sad Today) by Vũ and Linh are two contenders for Song of the Year.
Other categories include Musician of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Music Programme of the Year. The award ceremony will be held on April 16 at HCM Municipal Theatre. VNS
