HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam National Documentary and Scientific Film Studio in co-operation with Wallonie Bruxelles will be screening films and displaying posters to honour writer Georges Simenon to mark the 30th anniversary of his death.

Simenon (1903-89), born in the city of Liège in Belgium, was famous for his writing and detective novels, especially with the character Maigret. He wrote nearly 200 novels and 158 short stories. His works were translated into 47 languages and a total of 550 million publications were released.

He had 70 of his works adapted for screen and television and inspired the best film directors of that period, such as Jean Renoir, Claude Chabrol and Bertrand Tavernier.

On this occasion, The Clockmaker of St. Paul; Maigret and the St. Fiacre Case and The Truth About Bebe Donge will be shown at the studio with French language and Vietnamese subtitles on March 14, 15 and 16 at 7pm.

Professor Laurent Demoulin from the Georges Simenon Research and Fund Centre at the University of Liege will hold talks with audiences after each screening. He will also hold a seminar at the Hà Nội National University on March 15 and Đà Nẵng University on March 18 -19.

An exhibition featuring 45 film posters based on Simenon’s works will also be held at 465 Hoàng Hoa Thám. Free entrance. — VNS
