HÀ NỘI — Well-known beauty pageant magazine Missosology has announced Miss Universe Việt Nam H’Hen Nie as its Timeless Beauty 2018.

With a final score of 4.576, H’Hen surpassed Miss World Mariem Velazco in the final round to win the title as 2018 Timeless Beauty organised by Missosology.

H’Hen is the first contestant from Việt Nam to be proclaimed Missosology’s Timeless Beauty.

She is the third Asian to win the accolade, since the award was formally organised in 2010, according to Missosology.

In the world Miss Universe contest, for the first time, Việt Nam’s H’Hen made it into the Top 5. It is the highest rank Việt Nam had ever achieved in Miss Universe history.
Her placement in the Top 20 was also the first time since the country hosted the pageant in 2008.

On its website, the magazine noted that: “H’Hen Nie was remarkable in the Miss Universe stage. Her pixie cut hair was an embodiment of being “confidently beautiful”. Every moment she was on stage, she milked every second of it. She was a star!”

“She might not have won the crown, but H’Hen won the hearts of the people with her inspiring story,” Missosology added.

“From nothing, here I am. I can do it, you can do it,” she said during her opening statement at Miss Universe.

“The Vietnamese stunner defied traditions and standards and that makes her a true Timeless Beauty,” the magazine concluded.

H’Hen is the first person from an ethnic minority to be crowned Miss Universe in Việt Nam.

She was born in a poor family in a rural village in the Central Highlands province of Đắk Lắk where it is customary to get married as early as 14.

When she was told to find a husband at the age of 14, H’Hen said that she could not possibly get a husband at the time because she “had to follow her dreams and didn’t want to live a life where she had to marry early like many other kids had in her village”.

Instead, she went to HCM City, working different jobs – maid, tutor, leaflet deliverer and model to pay for her studies and life.
