KUALA LUMPUR — Moonlight Saigon, the first film project between Việt Nam and Malaysia, was introduced in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
The 26-episode TV series was produced by Malaysian film company Produksi Seni 2020 and its Vietnamese partner over more than a year. Most scenes were shot in Việt Nam’s HCM City and Malaysia’s Klang Valley.
Malaysian film producer Wendy Wong said at a press conference on Tuesday that Moonlight Saigon was a love story depicting Vietnamese and Malaysian cultures and aiming to foster bilateral relations of the countries.
She said the film-making process encountered various difficulties but good collaboration between the sides led to a successful shoot.
At the press conference, Malaysian Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Eddin Syazlee Shith praised the co-operation, saying it would help communication and entertainment companies from the two countries expand their joint projects.
He said he expects the cooperation with Việt Nam to lay the groundwork for similar activities with other ASEAN member states.
Trần Minh Hoan, chief representative of Vietnam Airlines in Kuala Lumpur, said the Vietnamese carrier is proud to play a part in the project in contribution to the growth of Việt Nam – Malaysia ties. Vietnam Airlines sponsored the film crew’s costs of travelling and equipment transportation.
Moonlight Saigon is scheduled to be screened on the Malaysian national television’s TV2 channel in October at 7pm (local time) from Monday to Friday. — VNS
