Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam-Japan copyright and book fair 2018 has opened in Hà Nội with the participation of publishers from the two countries.
The second incarnation was opened on Wednesday in the Việt Nam National Library, jointly held by the associations of publishers of Việt Nam and Japan.
It seeks to enhance the cultural co-operation and exchange between the two countries, while at the same time boosting exchanges in book publishing and copy-right trading, a report from the organiser said.
The fair, which has attracted about 40 Japanese and Vietnamese publishers including Sogakukan Inc, ASK International Co.Ltd and Discover 21 Inc of Japan and the publishing houses Information and Communications, and Women of Việt Nam, also aims to enrich the contents of publications to serve the reading needs of Vietnamese customers. It is considered a bridge to introduce high quality books of Việt Nam to Japan, and vice versa, according to the report.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held on May 24 in Hà Nội, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoàng Vĩnh Bảo stressed that Việt Nam and Japan have a long-term traditional friendship, with fruitful similarities in culture and history.
“In the past several years, diplomatic ties and cultural relations between the two nations have constantly developed, creating the foundation for co-operation in the publishing sector,” said Bảo.
However, the deputy minister said vast potential in publishing had not been exploited. He urged the publishing sector of the two countries to further boost their co-operation to give their respective peoples more chance to study and research each other’s history and culture.
The Government encouraged Japanese publishers to market their products and boost trading on copyrights of Vietnamese literature so that it can be presented to Japanese readers.
During the event, which will conclude on May 25, a variety of activities will take place including the donation of books to the National Library and a visit to Book Street in Hà Nội.
