HÀ NỘI —
Hà Nội streets are about to be filled with bonsai citrus trees and potted flowers for
Lunar New Year (
Tết
). A set of two bonsai kumquats shaped like a
giant vase is already for sale in Lạc Long Quân Street. Despite their sky-high price, the curvy trees quickly caught attention from the public. This set of two 2.3 metre high trees is asked for VNĐ45 million (US$1,900). Their shape
means wealth and prosperity for the new year. The grower of the bonsai, Nguyễn Kim Thắng from Hoài Đức District, said the kumquat trees would have an average life span of eight years. He spent the first five years for caring for the bonsai and forming their shape. —
