HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Film Days, will be held in Moscow from October 27 to 31 at Illusion Cinema showcasing five award winning movies from Việt Nam.

The movies are box-office hits, including Tôi Thấy Hoa Vàng Trên Cỏ Xanh (I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass), Em Chưa 18 (Jailbait), Cuộc Đời Của Yến (Yến’s Life) Mỹ Nhân (The Beauty) and 12 Chòm Sao: Vẽ Đường Cho Yêu Chạy (Zodiac: 5 Steps of Love).

Director Victor VũI See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass and emerging director Đinh Tuấn Vũ’s Yến’s Life won top honours at the Việt Nam National Film Festival in 2015. Vũ’s film, based on best-seller author Nguyễn Nhật Ánh’s short story, took home the Golden Lotus for best movie, while Yến’s Life won the Silver Lotus for best actress, best music, best cinematography and best production design.

I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass was also listed among the top 10 outstanding cultural films in Việt Nam and it won the best film award at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Fujian Province, China.

Released in 2015, the film was a cinematic phenomenon at the domestic box office, earning over VNĐ80 billion (US$3.6 million).

Director Vũ’s first work, Yến’s Life, grabbed the Grand Festival Prize at the World Premieres Film Festival in the Philippines in 2016.

Jailbait by Lê Thanh Sơn is one of the highest-grossing Vietnamese movies, earning a record revenue of VNĐ150 billion (US$6.6 million) following 16 days of nationwide screening. The movie was screened at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia City from September 18-23.

The film festival opening ceremony will be presented by deputy head of Việt Nam’s Department of Cinema, Đỗ Duy Anh, and producer representative of The Beauty

The Vietnamese Film Days is being held by the Russian film studio, Fest-Film, with support from the Ministry for Culture of Russia, Việt Nam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnamese embassy to Moscow and federal government state-funded cultural institution-cinematic organisation, Gosfilmofond. 

The festival is one of the activities being held under the framework of culture co-operation, promoting the bilateral relationship in the cinematic industry between Việt Nam and Russia.

All the movies will be shown with Russian subtitles. — VNS
