HCM CITY — Dozens of singers and musicians will perform the works of late songwriter Trịnh Công Sơn at a free outdoor concert to be held on HCM City’s Book Pedestrian Street on Friday night.
Pop stars Cẩm Vân and Đức Tuấn are expected to sing before more than 1,000 guests.
The show, called Nhớ Trịnh Công Sơn (In Memory of Trịnh Công Sơn), will feature young singers Bích Ngọc, Tấn Sơn and Lân Nhã.
Famous saxophonists Trần Mạnh Tuấn and An Trần, and the dance group Soul Music, will also be on hand.
Organised by Sơn’s family and his friends, the event aims to celebrate the artist 16 years after his death. It will begin at 6pm on Nguyễn Văn Bình Street in District 1.
At another event celebrating Son, a gala called Nối Vòng Tay Lớn (Joining Hands for Solidarity) will be held at Huế University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Huế.
Working with the university, singer Trịnh Vĩnh Trinh, Sơn’s younger sister, said the show would be a special experience.
Sơn’s popular works, including Ru Tình (Lullaby to Love) and Huế-Sài Gòn-Hà Nội and Nối Vòng Tay Lớn, will all be performed by veteran singers like Bảo Yến, Tịnh Uyên and Trinh.
A highlight of the evening will be the performance of songs Sơn wrote praising the country, such as Buổi Sáng Mùa Xuân (A Spring Morning) and Chiều Trên Quê Hương Tôi (Afternoon in My Country).
A group of amateur singers from music clubs who love Sơn’s music will be invited to perform.
The performance will start at 8:00pm at 6 Ngô Quyền Street on April 21. Tickets are free. — VNS
