HCM CITY — A festival for amateur and professional magicians in the southern provinces opens in HCM City on October 29.
The two-day event, organised by the city’s cultural centre, aims to offer a platform, especially for young people, to meet and share their skills in the performing arts.
The event has attracted nearly 100 performers, including 40 artists from eight magic clubs in the city and the provinces of Tiền Giang, Vũng Tàu, Đồng Nai and Bình Dương, as well as freelance magicians from the southern provinces.
The performers will present a wide range of new and traditional magic acts.
The jury consists of performers, including People’s Artists Tâm Chính and Vũ Ngoan Hợp, Meritorious Artist Trí Tưởng and magician Trần Định, who have previously been judges in international and local magic festivals.
Định, artistic director of the Vũng Tàu Province’s Circus and Magic Troupe, said: “The festival aims to search for young talent in magic as well as promote the performing arts in Việt Nam.”
The organiser will award three first prizes, four second prizes and six third prizes. Nine prizes will be given to young performers to encourage them to develop their career.
The festival’s preliminary round will be held at the city’s cultural centre in District 1 on October 29, while the finale will take place at District 12’s Cultural Centre on October 30. — VNS
