HCM CITY – Cuộc Đời Của Yến (Yến’s Life) directed by Đinh Tuấn Vũ won the Grand Festival Prize at the World Premieres Film Festival in the Philippines on Sunday.

The film, produced by the Việt Nam Feature Film Studio, is about the life of a 10-year-old girl whose marriage was arranged by her parents.

It stars Đỗ Thúy Hằng as the protagonist Yến and actors Lâm Tùng and Minh Hương.

Last year the film won five prizes, the Silver Lotus Award, best actress in a leading role, best music score, best cinematography and best production design, at the 19th Việt Nam Film Festival.

At the World Premieres Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize went to the Philippine movie Daughters of the Three Tailed Banner, the Best Actress award to Malaysia’s June Lojong for Redha, and Best Actor award to Spain’s Israel Elejalde for Love Above All Things.

The festival, in Manila from June 29 to July 10, has a programme called Country of Honour highlighting fimmaking talent around the world. Việt Nam is featured this year. The organisers chose eight contemporary Vietnamese films for screening through the festival at the Cinematheque Centre Manila.

They are Trúng Số (Jackpot), Mỹ Nhân (The Beauty), Những Đứa Con Của Làng (Children of the Village), Nhà Tiên Tri (The Prophet), Tôi Thấy Hoa Vàng Trên Cỏ Xanh (Yellow Flowers on Green Grass), 12 Chòm Sao: Vẽ Đường Cho Hươu Chạy (Zodiac: 12 Steps of Love), Trên Đỉnh Bình Yên (In the Peaceful Place), and Nước (2030). — VNS
