Activities held nationwide to commemorate celebrated songwriter’s death anniversary

HÀ NỘI A wide range of events will be held nationwide to commemorate the 23th death anniversary of renowned Vietnamese songwriter Trịnh Công Sơn (1939-2001).

Following the annual tradition, the songwriter’s relatives, friends and fans will gather at his former house, now 3D Museum, located at 47C Phạm Ngọc Thạch Street, HCM City, to light incense, then pay homage to the late artist at his grave in the Gò Dưa Cemetery in Thủ Đức City.

On the same evening, a musical night entitled Thao Thức Cùng Trịnh (Awakening with Trinh) with the theme Trịnh Công SơnPhiêu Du Một Đời (Trịnh Công Sơn - A Lifelong Journey) will also take place at his house, during which his relatives, friends, and fans will come together to sing his music throughout the night.

Meanwhile, in Hà Nội, the concert Như Cánh Vạc Bay (Like Soaring Wings) takes place on April 1 at the Hanoi Opera House. The event features performances by renowned artists such as Mỹ Linh, Hà Lê, Ngọc Anh, Nguyễn Hà and Lưu Hương Giang.

The Trịnh Công Sơn Music Research and Performance Group (abbreviated as Trịnh Công Sơn Research Group) has been officially launched as a result of the collaboration between his family and the Vietnam Studies Centre at Fulbright University Vietnam.

This research group will conduct in-depth studies of Sơn’s lyrics, philosophy and musical style, while also carrying out plans to pass on his legacy to the younger generation.

They will also produce a podcast series about the artist, organise a concert featuring his music at Fulbright University Vietnam in early 2025, and engage in various other activities dedicated to Sơn’s music and legacy.

Trịnh Công Sơn was a highly influential Vietnamese composer and songwriter. He is widely regarded as one of the most significant figures in Vietnamese contemporary music. His music often touched on themes of love, peace and social justice, and his lyrical and poetic style resonated with audiences across generations. VNS
