HÀ NỘI – Artists from the Laos National Art Troupe will perform in Đà Nẵng and Quảng Nam on July 20 and 21, as part of the celebrations for the Laos Cultural Week.

The week celebrates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Việt Nam Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

Laos' traditional culture and people will be presented to Vietnamese audiences through a wide repertoire performed on stage.

The show will also feature the traditional friendship and mutual cooperation between the two countries, said Vanxi Soukchaleun, deputy director of the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism’s Department of Arts and Culture.

“The selected repertoires represent the daily life of Lao people and our wish that the close cooperation between the two peoples of Laos and Việt Nam will always be sustainable and withstand the test of time,” she said.

The show will include Vietnamese classics like Tình Ca Tây Bắc (Tây Bắc Love Song), Tiếng Hát Trên Rừng Pác Bó (Singing in Pác Bó Forest) and Việt Nam Quê Hương Tôi (Việt Nam My Homeland), which will be performed by Laos artists.

Lao artists dance and sing at Hà Nội Opera House on July 18.

Singer Lotchana Anoulak said she is excited to sing Vietnamese songs having performed in Việt Nam several times.

“I don’t know Vietnamese but I like singing Vietnamese songs,” said Anoulak.

“Vietnamese songs have vibrant rhythm and meaningful lyrics. I often ask people who know Vietnamese to explain the meaning of the lyrics to get a profound understanding with a view to singing emotionally.”

The free show will be at Vườn Tượng An Hội in Hội An City, in the central province of Quảng Nam, on July 20 at 7.30 pm, and Đà Nẵng City’s Trưng Vương Theatre at 7.30pm.

A photo exhibition themed "Forever Laos-Việt Nam Friendship" opened yesterday at the Việt Nam Centre for Art and Culture, 2 Hoa Lư Street.

Parallel to Lao Culture Week in Việt Nam, Vietnamese Culture Week in Laos takes place at the same time.

A photo exhibition on Việt Nam–Laos friendship opened on July 17 in Vientiane as a part of Vietnamese Culture Week in Laos.

The exhibition displays images, documents, objects and books themed "Great Friendship, Special Unity and Comprehensive Cooperation" between Laos and Việt Nam. VNS
