Decrepit ‘floating restaurants’ in West Lake being demolished

A series of modified boats, once used as popular ‘floating’ restaurants and cafes on Hồ Tây (West Lake) in Hà Nội, are being disposed of after years of laying exposed to the elements following a ban by city authorities.

HÀ NỘI — A series of modified boats, once used as popular ‘floating’ restaurants and cafes on Hồ Tây (West Lake) in Hà Nội, are being disposed of after years of laying exposed to the elements following a ban by the capital city.

Hà Nội’s authorities issued the ban on 'floating restaurants' along with all commercial aqua-cultural activities in the lake in 2016, citing pollution to the environment as the restaurants reportedly usually dumped their waste right into the lake.

The Đầm Bảy area near Nhật Chiêu Street (Nhật Tân Ward) quickly became the ‘docking’ site of those now outlawed ships.
