Shares up on buying demand

Shares edged up on Thursday morning thanks to positive movements among large-cap stocks.

HÀ NỘI — Shares edged up on Thursday morning thanks to positive movements among large-cap stocks.

The benchmark VN-Index on the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange rose 0.09 per cent to close at 988.22 points after losing 0.08 per cent to close Wednesday at 987.0 points.

Nearly 70.3 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, worth VNĐ1.7 trillion (US$73.5 million).

Many large-caps gained thanks to rising buying demand, including brewer Sabeco (SAB), increasing by 3.6 per cent to VND272,500 per share, construction conglomerate Cotec Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD), up by 2 per cent to VND98,000 per share, and Saigon Securities Incorporation (SSI), climbing 2 per cent to VND22,100 per share.

Such gains pushed the large-cap VN30-Index up 0.21 per cent to end at 914.31 points.

On the Hà Nội Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index rose 0.03 per cent to end at 103.85 points.

The northern market fell 0.19 per cent to end at 103.81 points on Wednesday.

Nearly 14 million shares were traded on the exchange, worth VNĐ157 billion.
