Bắc Ninh eyes 270-ha IT park

HÀ NỘI — An IT park covering an area of about 274ha will be built in the northern province of Bắc Ninh, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

The IT park is expected to have a workforce of about 20,000 labourers and experts.

The planning will set the scene for the establishment of an IT hub in the province and the development of infrastructure for IT application and R&D activities, and accelerate the growth of the IT industry.

A centre for R&D activities in the field is also expected to be set up to provide professional training, facilitate technology transfer, and offer support for IT start-ups.

By the end of 2021, Bắc Ninh had 16 industrial parks, covering a total area of close to 6,400ha, 10 of which have been put into use, and the occupancy reached 91.2 per cent.

It has also established 31 industrial clusters, 21 of which were operational.

Many international tech giants, such as Samsung, Canon, Foxconn and Nokia, have set up base in the province’s industrial parks and clusters.

In March, Bắc Ninh Province officially licensed electronics manufacturer Goertek Vina to raise investment in its facility at Quế Võ Industrial Park to US$565.7 million from $260 million.

On the occasion, chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Hương Giang said Bắc Ninh highly appreciated investors from mainland China, Taiwan (China), the Republic of Korea and Japan, adding that with the additional investment, the company was expected to create more jobs and increase contribution to local State budget.

Bắc Ninh raked in more than $1.6 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first two quarters.

In the first six months of 2022, Bac Ninh Province ranked third with a total registered investment capital of nearly $1.63 billion, accounting for 11.7 per cent of total investment capital and increasing by 3.3 times over the same period of 2021. With such outcome, the province ranks ahead Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong and Hanoi and just behind Binh Duong and HCM City in the south, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The industrial province is currently home to 1,727 valid FDI projects with total registered investment reaching nearly $22.5 billion.

Bac Ninh provincial authorities plan to accelerate the progress of site clearance and complete the technical infrastructure of industrial parks like Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park 2 (VSIP2), Yen Phong 2A, Yen Phong 2C, Thuan Thanh I, Gia Binh, Gia Binh II and industrial clusters.

It hopes to further attract foreign-invested enterprises, especially large ones that will create a driving force for the province’s economic development and play a leading role in supporting enterprises, and domestic small and medium enterprises when they join the supply chain.  VNS
