HÀ NỘI — The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) is a pioneer in the field of safety, environment and health management, gradually perfecting guidelines for safety, environment and response to occupational incidents, while ensuring compliance with legal regulations in accordance with international practices.

PVN Group is aware of its responsibility to monitor and guide its member units, contractors and foreign partners to fully comply with the law on safety, health and environment.

To ensure sustainable development, PVN said that economic, social and environmental goals need to be unified with production and business goals.

When implementing projects, it conducts public consultation seriously and effectively, in accordance with Vietnamese laws and international practices.

Strengthening coordination activities with localities in environmental protection, and limiting the impact of projects on people's lives shows the responsibility of the group’s units to the community.

The group has constantly improved its safety, health and environment management system. It has been working to strengthen inspection, supervision on safety and has technical solutions to limit the risks caused by its activities.

It has also improved scientific and technological measures associated with safety and environmental work to ensure safe and effective operations.

In addition, the group's leaders require all officers and employees to fully understand and comply with environmental safety policies.

PVN always applies all appropriate measures to eliminate or minimise harm to human health and life, property and the environment.

Vietsopetro is one of the pioneers in environmental protection in the oil and gas industry.

The "Regulation on pollution prevention in the exploitation of marine oil and gas fields" was issued by Vietsovpetro in 1984 - three years after the Joint Venture was established.

In 1988, Vietsovpetro established the Center for Safety and Environmental Protection (Safety and Environmental Protection) with specialised response teams such as fire fighting, oil and gas eruption and oil spill rescue to respond to incidents on marine structures.

PV GAS is a typical unit of Petrovietnam in compliance with the provisions of the Law on Occupational Safety and Health. Every year, PV GAS develops and issues an Occupational Safety and Health plan in accordance with regulations and assigns specific tasks to units and departments in the group.

In 2020, PV GAS operated gas works that were guaranteed to be safe and efficient, providing maximum gas output during the complicated development of the pandemic, which seriously affected electricity consumption.

Completing legal documents

At PVN, new legal documents on environmental safety are promptly updated, disseminated and taught for staff specialising in safety, health and environment at Petrovietnam.

For environmental protection, newly added projects and works are required to prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment report in accordance with current regulations in the Law on Environmental Protection.

The group's environmental safety work is currently focused on: health and safety management; technology safety management; fire protection; environmental protection; respond to natural disasters; incident response; and sustainable development.

To minimise risks to employees and reduce the impact on the surrounding environment, along while continuing to maintain and update the Safety, Health and Environment Management System to ensure ISO compliance, Petrovietnam regularly reviews, updates and supplements documents and regulations in accordance with changes in standardised legal regulations and requirements.

It also meets health and safety issues arising in production and business activities.

PVN is the first unit in the industry to issue an action plan to mitigate and adapt to the climate change goals of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group for 2018 - 2030.

It also participated in the drafting process of legal documents on safety, health and environment and coordinated with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and related agencies,  especially on issues directly related to activities of the oil and gas industry.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be unpredictable with many difficulties and challenges, and PVN identifies such challenges as an opportunity to break through and affirm the group's bravery and capacity.

The achievements PVN, especially in 2020 and the first months of 2021, are the premise and goal for Vietnam's oil and gas industry to continue to stand and develop. — VNS
