Angkormilk, an affiliate of Vinamilk in Cambodia, presented 48,000 milk cartons to people living in hotspots of the COVID-19 pandemic in Phnom Penh early this month, providing timely support for local residents, especially children, to improve their health amid the outbreak.

Angkormilk hand delivered 1,000 cartons of milk to representatives of the Phnom Penh government to support affected people in the hotspots of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 situation in Cambodia is serious and Phnom Penh is the place with a high number of positive cases of the SAR-CoV-2 virus. To localise and limit the spread of the pandemic in the capital, home to the country's political, administrative and economic centres and important Cambodian industrial parks, local authorities have isolated a number of hotspots, where local residents are not allowed to leave their homes, except for medical or other emergencies.

Therefore, ensuring food and necessities for people in these areas is an urgent issue that has challenged the capital’s government in recent days.

Milk delivery to the Phnom Penh government is carried out with absolute care by the Angkormilk factory in accordance with COVID-19 pandemic prevention regulations.

Located in an industrial park in Phnom Penh, the Angkormilk dairy factory, with a vast majority of Cambodian employees, is also affected by the government's strict quarantine orders. However, the factory still tries to maintain production and strictly adheres to the COVID-19 prevention regulations in Cambodia, ensuring the supply of nutritional products for local people.

Meanwhile, Angkormilk also works with the Phnom Penh government to support dairy products, a source of nutrition suitable for the majority of people, from children to the elderly.

After receiving 48,000 milk cartons from the Angkormilk dairy factory, Phnom Penh will reallocate them to households in the hotspots during the lockdown period. In the letter of thanks sent to Angkormilk, Mayor of Phnom Penh Khuong Sreng expressed his respect for Angkormilk’s generosity based on the spirit of solidarity as well as mutual assistance of Angkormilk in the context of the whole country fighting against the pandemic. "This precious sympathy will be remembered by the Royal Government of Cambodia and the entire Cambodian people," the mayor noted.

In 2020, Angkormilk, in collaboration with the Vietnam Business Club in Cambodia (VBCC), held many support activities for the Vietnamese business community and Vietnamese Cambodians in difficult circumstances.

Doan Quoc Khanh, Director of Angkormilk Factory, said in response to the Cambodian government's call to support people affected by the pandemic, Angkormilk has been approved by the government to provide cash and product aid, including for many Vietnamese people living and working in Cambodia.

Angkormilk Dairy Factory was invested and built by Vinamilk and inaugurated in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh in 2016 with a total investment capital of US$28.7 million. It is the only dairy factory in Cambodia.

The factory has 500 employees and all have been vaccinated according to the government’s programme for facilities and units in industrial zones. In 2020, Angkormilk recorded revenue growth of 20 per cent compared to 2019.

Angkormilk's buses promptly bring milk to the hotspots in Phnom Penh during the lockdown.
