HÀ NỘI  The US-owned Universal Robot (UR), the pioneer of collaborative robots (cobots), is optimistic about expanding its presence in Việt Nam in line with the Government’s increasing focus on Industry 4.0.

Cobots - robots designed to work side-by-side and safely with people – are making automation accessible for businesses of all sizes, UR said in a statement.

“Cobot demand is rising in Việt Nam as businesses are recognising the importance of employing advanced technology and robotics to maintain a competitive advantage,” Shermine Gotfredsen, General Manager for Southeast Asia and Oceania at UR, said.

“Furthermore, the Government has made Industry 4.0 a top priority, developing action plans to accelerate the adoption of new automated technology, and attract more foreign investors,” she said.

“Cobots provide endless benefits for businesses of all sizes, as they increase productivity, improve output quality and enhance workers’ wellbeing. Early adoption of such automation will allow manufacturers to stay ahead of the curve, equipping them to tackle various issues such as rising operational costs, delivering a working environment that is more sympathetic to workers’ health and safety and human rights issues, and the need for businesses to expand globally to remain competitive,” she added.

UR entered the Vietnamese market in 2016. The company’s cobots are deployed in industries such as automotive, electronics, textile, footwear and food processing industries.

The company is showcasing its cobots at the Việt Nam Manufacturing Expo 2018 (VME) – the country’s leading exhibition on machinery and technology for manufacturing and supporting industries, which is under-way at the Hà Nội International Exhibition Centre in the capital. — VNS
