ĐỒNG NAI — US agribusiness giant Cargill has just opened a new Provimi Premix plant in the Giang Điền Industrial Park in Đồng Nai Province to meet a growing demand from livestock and aquaculture farmers.
The US$28 million plant represents a quantum leap forward from the Provimi Biên Hòa plant with vastly improved technology and superior infrastructure, representing the best of Cargill premix facilities in Asia, said Phạm Đức Thắng, managing director, Cargill Animal Nutrition Thailand & Vietnam.
Spanning 30,000 sq.m, the factory is more than nine times the size of its 27-year-old predecessor, and its 40,000-tonne annual capacity represents a 100 per cent increase over the Provimi Biên Hòa plant it supersedes.
“Cargill’s new Provimi Giang Điền facility will produce animal nutrition products ranging from low inclusion premixes to high inclusion basemix which contain high inclusion nutrition technology and other additives and specialty ingredients under the brand Provimi to serve multiple customer segments including farmers of livestock, aquaculture and feed mills all over Việt Nam,” Thắng said.
The significantly larger production and warehousing capacity will add to Việt Nam’s pre-mix capabilities and self-sufficiency, besides enhancing the precision and traceability of these specialty micro-nutrient products, according to the company.
The new plant has an automation rate of over 95 per cent.
Scott Ainslie, group director for Cargill Animal Nutrition in South and Southeast Asia, said: “Việt Nam continues to be an important market for Cargill globally. This expansion is part of our long-term strategic vision for Việt Nam and in line with the growth predictions for the country’s agricultural sector, and the Asia Pacific region.”
The plant complies with stringent food safety quality and regulatory requirements, and meets the highest quality and safety international standards such as ISO 22000 and FAMI QS.
It has advanced water treatment, smart lighting and natural lighting optimisation systems to ensure energy efficiency and minimise the carbon footprint, and uses eco-bags in line with its plastic waste reduction targets.
Võ Tấn Đức, acting chairman of the Đồng Nai Province People’s Committee, appreciated Cargill's commitment to corporate social responsibility and community engagement, particularly through its support for food security, nutrition and sustainable development and Cargill Cares initiative.
“We believe that Cargill's success, including Provimi's, will boost the appeal of Đồng Nai to other US businesses and foreign investors, especially in the context of the elevated Việt Nam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for enhanced co-operation and development.” — VNS
