Carlsberg Vietnam has raised a glass to a new era with the official opening of its expanded Phu Bai Brewery – now the largest beer production site in Asia for the Carlsberg Group. This milestone underscores the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable growth and innovation in Việt Nam.

The inauguration ceremony, held in partnership with the People’s Committee of Huế City, was attended by local officials, representatives from the Danish Embassy, Carlsberg executives, partners, and community stakeholders. The ribbon-cutting marked the start of a greener, smarter chapter for Phu Bai, in line with the Group’s motto of “brewing for a better today and tomorrow.”

With an investment of nearly US$90 million, the expansion has transformed Phu Bai into one of Carlsberg’s most efficient global production sites. It features Việt Nam’s fastest packaging lines and real-time data dashboards to optimise operations. The new high-efficiency brew line reduces water usage by 20 per cent and energy consumption by 15 per cent, creating a cutting-edge, environmentally friendly model where precision meets sustainability.

Carlsberg Vietnam’s strong focus on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) priorities is evident in Phu Bai’s water efficiency rate of 2.09 hl/hl in 2024 – one of the best in Carlsberg Asia – with a target of 2.0 hl/hl by 2026. Wastewater is treated using advanced technology, and the brewery aims to achieve zero waste to landfill by end of 2025 and net-zero carbon emissions in production by 2028, supporting Việt Nam’s national Net Zero 2050 goals.

Safety and employee welfare have been central to the project, with over 1.4 million safe working hours recorded during construction. The facility features AI-enabled electric forklifts for real-time risk detection, designated pedestrian pathways, intelligent safety systems, and enhanced canteen and welfare areas – all reflecting the belief that sustainable success begins with the well-being of people.

Managing Director of Carlsberg Vietnam, Andrew Khan, said: “The expansion of the Phu Bai Brewery gives us the platform, but what we do with it matters more. Our priority is clear: operate with excellence, stay close to our consumers, and keep growing in ways that are sustainable, human-centric, and aligned with the needs of the communities we serve.”

With the Phu Bai Brewery expansion, Carlsberg Vietnam not only scales up its production capacity but also reaffirms its long-term vision to foster a safe and people-centred workplace, maintain its commitment to every step of the green transition towards Net Zero, and continue building on its legacy in Central Việt Nam while contributing to the sustainable development of the country.
