HCM CITY — Commuters who crossed HCM City’s Sài Gòn Bridge last Thursday afternoon panicked when they saw a young boy jump into the river. People found his backpack and sandals placed neatly on the bridge.

Local police and rescuers spent hours searching for the boy who was presumed dead. But witnesses were surprised to see the boy re-appear early that evening. He contacted police and asked for his belongs.

He admitted to police that he jumped into the river to kill himself because he felt very depressed.

But as he fell, he found he no longer wanted to die. He can swim, so he swam ashore.

He caught a xe ôm (motorbike taxi) from the foot of the bridge to the area where police were searching for him. He wanted his belongings back.
