HÀ NỘI — Police in Hà Nội’s Hoàng Mai District arrested two men for stealing a luxurious Hermes handbag worth US$5,000 in Lý Thái Tổ Street in April 2014.

A few days ago, a woman carrying a designer Hermes bag was spotted at a low-cost rental terrace in Phương Liệt Ward, Hoàng Mai District. The bag drew a lot of attention from many low-income earners who had never seen such an expensive bag before.

The woman said the bag was a present from her husband.

After reviewing the evidence and interviewing local residents, police concluded the Hermes bag was stolen in Lý Thái Tổ two years ago, along with two smart phones, a pair of earrings worth over $1,000, more than VNĐ4 million in cash, bank cards, and personal documents.

It turns out the husband of the Hermes-toting woman was one of the two thieves.

The husband, Nguyễn Minh Đức, 34, admitted he and his accomplice sold the phones and shared the money. He kept the bag for his wife because it looked new and nice.

Maybe the wife was very happy with the present and did not care where the bag came from. After all, her husband had given it to her. That was enough. But she must regret showing it off. — VNS
