HÀ NỘI — The three provinces of Phú Thọ, Thái Nguyên and Bắc Giang have recently been added to the Hà Nội Capital Region Master Plan by 2030.

The move was approved by Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

According to the master plan’s vision towards 2050, the capital region will encompass the nine surrounding provinces of Vĩnh Phúc, Bắc Ninh, Hải Dương and Hưng Yên, Hà Nam, Hòa Bình, Phú Thọ, Thái Nguyên and Bắc Giang, with a total area of some 24,300sq.km., nearly double the earlier area.

Hà Nội, Vĩnh Phúc and Bắc Ninh have been identified as the core areas with the highest ratio of urbanisation.

Hải Dương, Hưng Yên and Hà Nam, located to the south of the Hồng (Red) River Delta, will develop supporting industrial parks, centres of education and training, health, gymnastics and farm produce processing units.

Hòa Bình, Phú Thọ, Thái Nguyên and Bắc Giang are the gateways connecting Hà Nội to the northern midlands and the mountainous region.

The master plan aims to make the capital region a major centre for economy, services and trading, not only within the country, but also in the entire Asia-Pacific region by 2050. — VNS
