HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng yesterday said the Communist Parties of Việt Nam and Cuba should spare no effort in strengthening and fostering the long-standing, model fraternity between the two countries.

The effort is particularly important given complicated developments in the international situation, he said at a reception held in Hà Nội yesterday for Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez.

The Party leader pledged that the Vietnamese Party, State and people will always stand side by side with Cuba in its struggle for the goals and noble ideals of socialism.

"Việt Nam will accompany Cuba in updating its socio-economic development model and is willing to share the country’s experiences in its own 30-year renewal process," he said.

Trọng also expressed his belief that the Cuban NA Chairman’s visit would contribute to enhancing the model fraternity, traditional friendship, comprehensive co-operation and solidarity between the two Parties, States, legislatures and people.

Lazo Hernandez congratulated Việt Nam on its notable achievements of the past 30 years of đổi mới, describing them as valuable experience for Cuba in updating its own socio-economic development model.

Informing his host about the outcome of his talks with Vietnamese Government and NA leaders, Hernandez affirmed his determination to deepen relations between the two Parties, legislative bodies and people.
