HCM CITY — The total number of national registered domain names with “.vn” reached 453,979 as of last month, an increase of 9.33 per cent over the same period last year, according to the Việt Nam Internet Network Information Centre.

Of these, “.vn” domain names accounted for 54.9 per cent and “.com.vn” accounted for 35.2 per cent.

In its e-commerce Index 2018, Việt Nam E-Commerce Association reported that the total number of websites with the country domain name “.vn” and “.com.vn” accounted for more than 90 per cent of total websites.

The “.vn” domain name is the country code top-level domain, which has been transferred by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to Việt Nam for management.

According to experts, the national domain name is protected by Vietnamese law.

When using the national domain name, enterprises will be able to prevent counterfiet numbers and also minimise the loss of communication with international partners when a fibre-optic cable breaks.

In addition, thanks to the priority of the domain name search engine with country code .vn when searching in Việt Nam, businesses in any sector that use this domain can easily reach customers.

One of the barriers to registering .vn domain names includes complicated procedures, and takes much time.

To improve the situation, the Việt Nam Internet Network Information Centre has allowed domain registars to pilot online registration for the national domain name starting from September 10.

The registration of domain name .vn is simple and fast, but still complies with the regulations on the registration of domain name, according to the centre.

Huỳnh Ngọc Duy, CEO of Mắt Bão Corporation, which is the first company allowed to pilot online application for .vn domain name, said the registration of .vn domain name via online application is an important step in improving transactions in processing applications and archive records, and maintaining .vn domain name.

At the same time, it will also help save time for customers while still ensuring compliance of regulations on registration of .vn domain name. — VNS
