HCM City – The WhiteHat Drill 04 network security rehearsal this year focuses on ransomeware, which recently caused much alarm globally.

“Ransomware: coping and prevention” has attracted the participation of 80 banks, universities, information and telecommunication departments and businesses.

Each team had a computer and a cloud account with the rehearsal scenario installed.

By opening an attached file in an email, the network was infected by ransomware, and the teams were required to isolate and prevent the virus from spreading.

They then had to analyse the file to identify the source of the attack, recover the database and instal tools to prevent ransomware.

“During the rehearsal, teams continuously discussed with organisers and supported each other to cope with great challenges,” Ngô Tuấn Anh, BKAV Technology Group’s deputy chairman in charge of network security, said.

“This was the biggest success of WhiteHat Drill 04 -- the creation of links between organisations, State agencies and enterprises to work together for network security.”

This year the world saw an explosion of ransomware, with financial and socio-economic sectors suffering great losses.

BKAV estimated that 16 per cent of all e-mails in 2016 were sent to deliver ransomware attacks.

“Ensuring network security should be a habit for all organisations and individuals,” Nguyễn Huy Dũng, deputy head of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications’ Network Security Department, said.

“This kind of rehearsal is very useful.”

The rehearsal ended on July 30. -- VNS
