CẦN THƠ — Doctors at Cần Thơ Maternity Hospital saved the life of a pregnant woman on April 18 afternoon when she delivered triplets---all girls. The babies are in good health.

Early morning on April 18, the 33-year-old woman was hospitalised for abdominal pain although she had no sign of labour.

After a medical examination, doctors determined she was in her 37th week of pregnancy. This was her second pregnancy with three amniocentesis.

It was a rare and high-risk case that could prove fatal for both the mother and the babies if prompt measures were not taken.

The hospital authorities decided to perform a surgery and mobilised tens of doctors and medical staff. At 1.30pm, they delivered three baby girls, weighing 2.5kg, 2.7kg and 2.9kg, respectively.

Both the mother and babies are doing good.

Đỗ Thị Minh Nguyệt, deputy head of the hospital’s Maternity Department, who was part of the medical team performing the surgery, said it was a rare case, with a ratio of one among 8,000 cases.
