HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội FC made a winning return to V.League 1 action after defeating Hoàng Anh Gia Lai 3-0 in the V.League 1 on Saturday at Hàng Đẫy Stadium.

Jamaican Rimario Gordon, a former Hoàng Anh Gia Lai striker, scored a double after captain Nguyễn Văn Quyết netted the opening goal 23 minutes into the game.

With two wins and one draw, Hà Nội are in fourth position in the table on six points, just one behind the top three.

Sông Lam Nghệ An also secured a 1-0 win over SHB Đà Nẵng on Saturday to place third. Bottom-placed Đà Nẵng have yet to win a game after three matches.

Meanwhile, newcomers Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh scored a shocking 2-0 away win over Quảng Ninh at Cẩm Phả Stadium.

Quảng Ninh also sustained a big loss as their key midfielder Nguyễn Hải Huy suffered an injury that looks set to keep him out of action for three months.

Thanh Hóa lost 2-1 to Quảng Nam, causing Italian head coach Fabio Lopez to be fired after the match. It was their third loss in three V.League 1 matches. They were also ousted from the National Cup last week.

Lopez is the first coach to lose his job in V.League 1 this season.

Thanh Hóa’s President Nguyễn Văn Đệ has hired Nguyễn Thành Cộng, former coach of Sài Gòn FC, as Lopez's replacement.

HCM City lead the table with seven points, while Viettel are second on goal difference. — VNS
