HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese archers brought home three golds, three silvers and two bronzes at the Bangkok 2020 Asia Cup, leg 1, which concluded in Thailand over the weekend.
With this result, Việt Nam ranked second in the overall medal table, behind the Russian team with four gold medals.
The two golds came in both the men’s and women’s compound team events, thanks to the efforts from male archers Nguyễn Văn Duy, Thạch Phi Hùng, Trịnh Văn Đức, and their female teammates Châu Kiều Oanh, Lê Phương Thảo and Nguyễn Linh Chi.
The rest of the gold medals belonged to three-time Southeast Asian Games winner Lộc Thị Đào in the women’s recurve individual event.
Đào also took a bronze medal in the mixed doubles’ recurve category alongside Nguyễn Hoàng Phi Vũ.
This is Đào’s second gold medal in the Asia Cup. She won the first one in the event in 2017.
With the achievement, Đào has continued to accumulate more important points to realise her target of winning a ticket to the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Việt Nam archery now has gained two tickets to compete in the Olympics this year thanks to Đỗ Thị Ánh Nguyệt và Nguyễn Hoàng Phi Vũ.
In April, the Vietnamese archery team will continue to head to Germany for an Olympic qualifying round. — VNS
