HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam national squad climbed up three places to 94th position in the latest FIFA Men's Rankings announced on Thursday.
The team gained 13 points to have a total of 1,258.
This ranking comes after the undefeated results of Việt Nam in the FIFA World Cup qualifying round held at the Hà Nội-based Mỹ Đình National Stadium in November in which Việt Nam beat the United Arab Emirates 1-0 and tied goalless with Thailand.
It is the 12th month in a row Việt Nam, under the guidance of head coach Park Hang-seo, have ranked in the world’s top 100.
On November 29, 2018, Việt Nam rose two steps to rank 100th in the world. This was the first time since December 2011 the team had reached this position.
In the Southeast Asian region, Việt Nam continued to place No 1, beating runners-up Thailand by 19 positions. Thailand are at No 113.
In Asia, Việt Nam increased two steps to No 13. Japan replaced Iran to take the lead, followed by South Korea, Australia and Qatar.
Belgium, France and Brazil topped the world’s rankings.
