Việt Nam collects more 2017 SEA Games medals

Việt Nam was awarded more medals from the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, as athletes from Thailand and Malaysia tested positive for doping, the Việt Nam Olympic Committee (VOC) has announced.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam was awarded more medals from the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, as athletes from Thailand and Malaysia tested positive for doping, the Việt Nam Olympic Committee (VOC) has announced.

According to the VOC, Việt Nam took more one gold medal in the women’s trio category of pencak silat and one bronze in the women’s springboard doubles.

The athletes receiving the gold medals are martial artists Nguyễn Thị Huyền, Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà and Nguyễn Thị Thúy as well as divers Nguyễn Phương Anh and Ngô Phương Mai.

With these additional medals, Việt Nam won a total of 59 gold medals, 50 silvers and 61 bronzes to rank third in the medal tally for the biggest regional sports event. Host country Malaysia and Thailand still topped the event.

The 30th SEA Games will be held from November 30 to December 11 in the cities of Manila, Clark and Subic in the Philippines. It will be the biggest-ever edition with a record 56 sports. — VNS
