HÀ NỘI — Midfielder Lê Tấn Tài has signed a one-year contract extension with former V-League 1 champions Becamex Bình Dương.
Former national team’s captain Tài, 34, is still a key player of Bình Dương, who finished seventh in the national premiere league last year.
Tài helped the national team lift the first ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup’s title in 2008. He has played for Bình Dương since 2014.
Defending champions Hà Nội FC wanted to sign Tài but he decided to stay put.
“I am beginning to feel my age so I only have one-year contract extension with Bình Dương. In the next football season, if I am strong enough, I will play more,” said Tài.
“I respect the invitation of Hà Nội FC as they are the best team in the country now. However, I decided to stay with Bình Dương as I have a strong attachment to it,” Tài added.
During the time of playing with Bình Dương, Tài helped his team win V.League 1’s titles in 2014 and 2015; win Vietnamese National Cup in 2015 and 2018 as well as take the title of Vietnamese Super Cup in 2015 and 2015.
Tài also won the Vietnamese Silver Ball award in 2012, Bronze Ball awards in 2005 and 2006 and won the award of Young Player of the Year in 2005. — VNS
