HÀ NỘI — Lê Văn Duẩn won the fifth stage of the HCM City Television Cycling Tournament yesterday.
Duẩn of VUS HCM City finished first in the 155km ride from Hà Nội to Thanh Hóa, completing the stage in three hours and 26 minutes.
Duẩn’s older brothers Lê Nguyệt Minh and Nguyễn Thành Tâm of Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang were the runners-up.
Minh was given the green jersey award as the best sprinter in the stage with 43 points – three points above his brother Duẩn.
Although Huỳnh Thanh Tùng of the Military Zone 7 team finished sixth in this stage, he nonetheless won the yellow jersey award for the best overall time at the end of all five stages.
Tùng’s performance helped his team, the Military Zone 7, take the lead in the team rankings.
Meanwhile, the white jersey for best young cyclist was awarded to Nguyễn Cường Khang of VUS-HCM City.
Yesterday, the top 13 national crews began the sixth stage of the tournament, cycling from Thanh Hóa to Vinh City, a total distance of 137km.
The tournament consists of 30 stages, covering 3,267km in total. It’s the largest number of stages for a tournmanet of its nature not just in Việt Nam, but also the world. — VNS
