HÀ NỘI — The national women’s football team drew Bayern Munich 1-1 in their first friendly match in Germany on Monday.

Coach Mai Đức Chung called the best players to start the match as their rivals were one of the strongest teams in the domestic league, currently ranking second in the table.

Chung asked his team to play in defence and take chances if possible.

The Vietnamese enjoyed some 100 supporters, many of whom had travelled hundreds of kilometres to cheer them up at the Bayern Munich’s training field despite the rain.

Huỳnh Như surprisingly opened the score at the 40th minute before the hosts levelled in the second half with a penalty kick.

The Vietnamese players moved to Grunberg after the game. They will practise for two days before playing their second friendly match against Hoffenhiem FC on March 29.

During their time in Germany, the squad will have a chance to watch a game of Bundesliga on March 31.

They will then fly to Jordan to compete at the Asian Cup from April 6-20.

Việt Nam will take on Japan in the first match of the tournament on April 7. — VNS
