HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam won the first round of the first Việt Nam Tennis Federation Pro Tour 1 which opened in Vũng Tàu City on January 28.
Nam of Becamex Bình Dương, No 1 seed, defeated his teammate Lê Trung Khang 6-1, 6-1 in the men’s singles.
In other news, Hoàng Thành Trung of People’s Police easily beat Vũ Thái Nam of Hà Nội 6-0, 6-2.
Trịnh Linh Giang of Becamex Bình Dương, No 2 seed, crushed young ace Trương Thành Minh of Ninh Thuận 6-0, 6-1.
While Lê Khắc Tùng Lâm of Đà Nẵng, No 4 seed surprisingly lost to Huỳnh Minh Thịnh of Bình Dương 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.
Vũ Artem, No 7 seed, lost to Trần Tiến Thịnh of Hưng Thịnh 5-7, 6-2, 6-7(3) after three hours.
The event attracted the participation of around 100 players, competing in four categories -- men’s and women’s singles and doubles.
The men’s singles winner will take home VNĐ40 million (US$1,800), while the women’s singles winner will get VNĐ30 million ($1,300).
The men’s doubles champions will win VNĐ10 million ($450), and the female champions will receive VNĐ8 million ($360). — VNS
