Viên wins 16 golds at national swimming event

Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên alone won 16 gold and three silver medals at the National Swimming Championships, which wrapped up at the Phú Thọ swimming club in HCM City on October 9.

HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên alone won 16 gold and three silver medals at the National Swimming Championships, which wrapped up at the Phú Thọ swimming club in HCM City on October 9.

Her achievement helped the Military team top the medal tally with 16 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals.

With her outstanding performance, Viên won the best swimmer award at the event.

Hosts HCM City came second with 11 golds, five silvers and six bronzes. Notably, Trần Duy Khôi bagged eight gold medals for HCM City.

Overseas Vietnamese Lê Nguyễn Paul won five gold medals to help An Giang rank third with a total of five golds, six silvers and one bronze.

The five-day event saw six new individual records and four relay records, of which Nguyễn Huy Hoàng of Quảng Bình set three national records in the men’s 800m freestyle, 1,500m freestyle and 400m freestyle events. — VNS
